I'd like to pick your brain

Updated: Feb 12, 2018

OK, let's face it. So far, I'm a pathetic blogger. My one and only other post was last MAY. I thought writing the first post would inspire me to keep going, and I was wrong. I got busy-I was making things and schlepping all my stuff to shows and trying to make things pretty and talk to customers and do ALL the things that always have to happen and if someone asks me what is for dinner just ONE MORE TIME, I will pack a bag and get out of Dodge. Don't test me. Dodge isn't all that picturesque some days. And while I'm on the subject, sort of, we had rotisserie chicken for dinner. It came from Wegmans. We also had it last night. I'm not a cook. If I ever post a recipe on this blog, you can be certain of two things: 1) I did not make up the recipe and 2) it will be easy to make. When my children are grown and out of the house, I will more than likely eat microwaved meals over the sink with a disposable spork.

Anyway, none of that has anything to do with why I want to pick your brain. That expression never bothered me until I put it in writing and now it just seems gross-and also a little funny, so I'm just going to leave it. Why do I need to pick your brain?? I'm trying to figure out how to round out and expand what I offer through the website, and it's a lot harder than I thought. Most of the things I sell, I make, and that's time consuming. I was thinking of featuring different makers, and having other artists and creators featured on my website, maybe for a month or so, maybe longer. I don't know. I am also thinking of different things I could have for sale through the website that I order from wholesalers, and I've done this with a few essential oil diffusers, and yet most of my diffusers I sold at my shows, I think because people could see them and ask me questions about them. I also had salt lamps at the shows and those were VERY popular. They are also very heavy, so shipping them would be expensive.

So, if you have the time, I'd be curious as to what kinds of things you might like to see offered-different kinds of candles? Diffusers? Essential oils? Handmade things from other artists? I'd like to stay within the realm of hand made, home decor, and/or natural wellness products, although I'm trying to never say never. And if you know an artist or maker to recommend, that might want to be featured, give me a name. I have a couple of people in mind that I've met at my shows and they primarily sell at shows or through social media, so I thought it might be fun to work with them and it would add to what I can offer. I don't have much on right now anyway, but that will be what I work on this week and I thought I'd try and get some help! Share your thoughts with me. Lord knows, I could use more thoughts.

I hope your new year is off to a terrific start! Thanks in advance for letting me pick your brains. I'm going to try and get better at blogging, which may mean you'll hear from me in August, or I will actually do this more frequently. In the future, I plan to hire a really mean assistant who makes me do all the things and won't let me stop and have a snack or complain because I'm overwhelmed. It might be good if he/she was a hitter. I'll work on that too.
